The City of Auburn has installed bicycle safety signs around town as a
further step in implementing the City of Auburn's bicycle plan. The signs
alert motorists to be aware of bicyclists sharing the lane with cars on
streets without bike lanes. Alabama law provides for bicycle use on all
streets and requires bicyclists to observe the same traffic rules as
motorist. With Auburn's large population of bicycle-commuters, the City
expects the new signs to encourage bicycle use and safe sharing of the
road. Greater use of bicycles can help to reduce crowded traffic
conditions in Auburn. |
